Dr Johan Gustafsson
Johan joined BioCommons in 2019 with experience in biochemistry and mass spectrometry-based molecular imaging and proteomics, including a PhD from the University of Adelaide (2012). He has also held postdoctoral positions at both the University of Adelaide and UniSA, plus worked in the highly collaborative ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science.
At BioCommons, Johan engages with communities built around common research areas, including metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics workflows, and works closely with them to develop roadmaps that present a national vision for shared national infrastructure. He then continues to work closely with the community to roll out their shared vision and continue to forge connections.
Johan is particularly passionate about ensuring that software is FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and reproducible) and enjoys engaging with and connecting people, plus finds it very rewarding to create meaningful outputs for the communities that he’s involved in. Examples include How-to Guides, ToolFinder, documentation guidelines, templates, or anything that makes it easier for researchers to discover exciting developments in bioinformatics!
Johan's position is funded by Bioplatforms Australia and hosted by the University of Melbourne.
