Event support
Australian BioCommons regularly supports community members to deliver events that align with our mission to uplift life sciences digital research. We welcome opportunities to enable events related to bioinformatics and/or research infrastructure for life sciences that benefit a national audience.
Organising an event but need some tips? Eager to deliver training but lack the computational resources for your class? Our team can advise on all aspects of event organisation to support individuals and groups to share their specialist knowledge.

Sponsorship
Australian BioCommons has a limited capacity to provide funding for the uplift of events hosted by others. The goal of sponsorship is to support our peers to offer great bioinformatics or biodata-related events and activities. Rather than passive brand representation, we seek sponsorship opportunities that offer strategic interactions between BioCommons staff and delegates, to raise awareness of BioCommons fully subsidised services and explore avenues for collaboration.
Sponsorship may be available for events that:
Serve a national audience
Are held in different locations (if recurrent)
Directly relate to bioinformatics and/ or research infrastructure for life sciences
Be aligned to a topic of relevance to our Mission, and/or one of the domains we support
Offer a high quality opportunity to engage at a respected forum
Offer a meaningful opportunity to interact and/or raise awareness of BioCommons activities.
Given BioCommons is a federally (NCRIS) funded project that partners with many stakeholders to deliver activities and services requested by research communities, we often find that regular conference sponsorship arrangements that are tailored to for-profit companies don't align with our tax-payer funded model.
Representation at events should allow BioCommons to present the range of highly accessible, fully subsidised and well-resourced bioinformatics tools, platforms and services that are available for anyone to use, and/or and opportunities to engage directly with Australian researchers and bioinformaticians to discuss their needs and invite them to participate in our community consultations and roadmapping exercises. Alternatively, we welcome the opportunity to help improve accessibility of events for geographically-dispersed Australian researchers through supporting virtual participation, student scholarships or travel grants.

An example we’re proud of…
Australian BioCommons sponsorship of AMSI BioInfoSummer 2022
BioCommons was proud to sponsor this excellent conference once again in 2022. It attracted 120 participants from 20 universities, 4 research institutes and 3 industry organisations ranging from undergraduate students through to academics and industry professionals. Our sponsorship provided travel and accommodation support for 14 interstate students (7 males and 7 females) from 7 universities to travel to Melbourne so they could maximise their conference experience by mingling with their peers and speakers to build their national networks. AMSI profiled each of the grant recipients here: http://rhed.amsi.org.au/grant-recipients/.
